I glued on the side pieces to the scroll head and the tail block. Tomorrow, if I have time, I’ll measure out the top pieces and cut out the heart sound holes.

While looking through a dulcimer building forum I came across this site, http://claredulcimers.com/. Clare makes beautiful dulcimers, and her site contains some helpful information on how she does it.
I already received the dulcimer kit from Stewart Macdonald. That was fast!
The parts and wood are very high quality. One thing that concerns me though is that the top and bottom are uncut, and I don’t have a band saw. The directions say to use a sharp knife (5 or so cuts) after you trace out the design, but I don’t see that working. Might be an excuse to buy some power tools!
I love playing music, but I know I’m not that good. That said, this video of Joni Mitchell has inspired me to make a dulcimer. I can only hope to play a 10’th as well as her.
I’ve ordered a kit from Stewart-MacDonald ( http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Kits/Dulcimer_Kits/Dulcimer_Kit.html?actn=100101&xst=3&xsr=239 ), and will post photos and comment here while I build it. I have to do a pink uke for my step-daughter first though, because I made a promise.
